The Suicide Squad trailer was recently premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con this Saturday, but it wasn’t set to be released to the public yet. The plan was for the trailer to be a Comic-con exclusive, and it would be released online after a few months. However due to the leaks that happened recently, DC and Warner Bros probably thought that a hi-def version of their trailer is much better than a grainy video being shared online. Because of that we get to see the full trailer sooner. Leaks aren’t new to this franchise, considering it had a leaked photo of Jared Leto as the Joker while in the filming location a few months ago. Although a big surprise for the fans is that we finally get to see a full look of Jared leto’s Joker and how he will play the role.
The trailer starts with Waller eating stake while talking to someone about assembling a team with ‘the worst of the worst’ suggesting that she will form the best task force while ensuring she can control the most dangerous villains in the planet to do some good. “Getting people to act against their self interests is what I do for a living” she says. We then get a clip of the villains as Harley Queen sings ‘I Started A Joke‘ by the Bee Gees, which is the perfect song for Jared Leto’s character.
The rest of the trailer, we get to see the set up for the plot of the highly anticipated 2016 film. We get to see all the members of the Suicide Squad one by one, and working together on screen. Several action shots follow with Harley and the rest, and from what it looks like, it seems that we’ll be getting a backstory for Harley Quinn before she becomes Joker’s girl.
To those who are unfamiliar with the Suicide Squad, they are a task force that includes the worst villains of the DC world developed by the government to carry out black-ops missions with the hope of getting their sentence reduced. Considering its name, a number of villains have come and gone in this task force, most of them not having survived the mission. This movie’s roster of the Suicide Squad include Batman villains Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinuoye-Agbaje) and several villains from other heroes such as Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Slipknot (Adam Beach), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), and El Diablo (Jay Hernandez). Katana (Karen Fukuhara) along with Rick Flag aren’t villains in the comics universe, but they have been added to the team with Rick Flag being the leader of the group.
Another thing that got the fans excited is the fact that Batman, played by Ben Affleck in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, will be appearing in the movie as well. His role might be a small one, but knowing that Joker is also involved we’re assuming they’re going to have a showdown at some point.
Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker is what seals this trailer as the best DC trailer to date. His brief yet menacing appearance at the end erases any doubt that have been expressed by fans about his portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime. It looks like Heath Ledger’s Joker will finally get a worthy successor.
DC’s Suicide Squad continues to shoot at their filming location in Toronto and is expected to finish in September 2015. The movie premieres on the 5th of August, 2016.
