After almost half a decade of waiting, it seems like the Warcraft movie is finally coming. Blizzard announced the much awaited movie last year at their annual BlizzCon event. Together with director Duncan Jones, they have revealed the full cast of Legendary Pictures’ Warcraft movie. Before that, there’s been lots of reports about who’s playing who. But now we finally know which actors will be playing as the humans and as the orcs.
For those who aren’t fans of the game, the epic fantasy film is based on the Warcraft video game series Orcs and Humans, and Tides of Darkness. It portrays the story of the human’s first encounter with the orcs. Emphasizing on both the Alliance’s and Horde’s side of the conflict. The film’s locations will be based on the places from the established video game series.
On the human’s side, Travis Fimmel who’s known as RagnarLothbrok on Vikings, will play as AnduinLothar, leader of the humans. With Dominic Cooper as King LlaneWrynn, son of Adamant and king during the invasion of the Horde. Paula Patton as Garona, the “strong willed survivor” and Ben Foster as Magus Medivh, a mysterious and reclusive protector who wields formidable magic.
The orcs, more commonly known as “the Horde” in the game, will have Toby Kebbel, who will be portraying Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four reboot, will play the role of Durotan. The lead of the Horde, he is the noble Chieftain of the Frostwolf clan. Clancy Brown as Blackhand “The Destroyer”, one of the most fearsome orcish chieftains. With him is his right hand OrgrimDoomhammer, played by Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu as Gul’dan, an Orcish warlock and leader of the Shadow Council.
Now to the average movie-goer, this might seem a lot to take in. The Warcraft mythos is so rich and epic that it won’t be enough to write in one article. With all its beautiful filming locations and grand storyline that spans ages. Hopefully, the movie will explain it to us in a way that can be both enjoyable to the fans and those who are entirely new to the lore. The movie will show us both sides of the war, from the humans to the orcs, featuring equal time on their struggle in the seemingly endless war. In the end, the movie will make you root for either the Alliance or the Horde, which fits in the element of the Warcraft games in choosing your side. Warcraft will be released to theaters in March, 2016.
